What an excellent day out on the 14th August, thanks to all those who did the work of getting the BBQ ready, cooking and organising the run from Newbury.
A gentle ride down the A34 from Bicester to Newbury and I was ready for a cup of tea from the cafe by the canal. Seeing another couple of bikers I asked if they were for the BMW ride out, they weren't but they said there were a lot of BMWs parked on the car park by the entrance! True enough, there was Geoff and about 7 bikes in the wrong place!! An excellent tour from Newbury out into the hills with superb views from the tops of the Downs - is that an Oxymoron? Seeing a crop circle way down below reminded us that we also had to go down a winding and narrow road. Through little villages I'd never heard of, neat churches and village greens, many great looking pubs. One of these had a gathering of vintage Triumphs with their owners watching us all cruise by. A climb back up the hill to the Forest site and the BBQ with all our friends already tucking in. Superb food, cooked to perfection by the team of chefs followed by some wonderful cakes, fruit salad and ice cream refilled the inner people. My ride home proved pleasant enough as long as I had the patience to cope with the tourists and the farmers, which after such a nice day was easy. Here's to the next event with a big thank you again to all those who organised and ran the day. The section trip to the Mosel in Germany went very well. We stayed at the Landal Green Park, Mont Royal, which is above a near 360 degree bend in the Mosel river stunning views of the river and towns. The surrounding area is full of picturesque medieval town like Bernkastel. The Moselle is also Germany's famous wine growing region and we were able to take part in a wine tasting. Overall an excellent holiday which was very well attended and plans for Austria in 2012 are already underway. |

The Hook Norton Brewery run was an excellent day out organised by Dave and Rosemary and was a worthy successor to the Either Or run. The combination of good weather, good food, a brewery and a good route ensured a very good turnout. Here are the bikes at Hook Norton Brewery, photo by David Dillon. Next year Dave and Rosemary are planning another interesting rideout! |

The new Bahnstormer Thames Valley branch had an official opening day on Saturday. The BMW Club and IAM attended. Here are some of the 'Fuel Girls' who were hosting the day. We recruited 7 new members including one for Southern Section! Bahnstormer Thames Valley should be handy for members near Reading and Bracknell. |

The Uffington Bring and Buy sale was a great success this year and the weather was much better than the arctic weather of January 2010. The kitchen at the village hall has recently been refurbished and the food was excellent. The level of sales was also good and the receipts were back to 2009 levels. |

With the snow melted there was a good turnout for the annual New Year's Day Lunch at the Lock Stock and Barrel in Newbury.
Quite a number of of club members braved the cold to travel by motorcycle, and the machines made a fine sight on Newbury Wharf. 2011 is going to be a busy year starting with the Bring & Buy Sale at Uffington, see diary of events. There is still time to signup for the section trip to Germany as well! Good riding. |
