Popham MegaMeet

posted 30 Aug 2011 04:07 by Steven Moxey   [ updated 24 Sep 2011 05:21 ]

Arriving at Popham there was mud and standing water on the track to the site. Luckily, the BMW stand on the right hand side of the field was clear of the wet and muddy main field. With the help of the Christian Motorcyclists Association the gazebo was up and BMW members soon arrived. Our location allowed us to observe some interesting arrivals as people tried to get a grip on the wet surface. Only three bikes fell over and there were soon many hands to help the unfortunate and embarrassed riders. Somewhat amusingly, all the old bikes with old treaded tyres and relatively low power engines had no trouble at all. The newer machines was not so lucky.
Some bikers tried to park along the fence within our stand area to avoid the mud; we told them they could stay if they joined the club! From the comments I overheard from those who took part in the ride out they had a good run only interrupted by the occasional awkwardly driven 'tin box'. I also visited the parked aircraft area and spotted the very nice red and white Great Lakes, built in 1978 in the USA. Report by John Broad.

Waterfront Cafe Benson

Dave and Rosemary organised an excellent run to the Hook Norton Brewery near Banbury. The event was very popular with nearly 40 members attending, here are some of the members 're-fueling' at the Waterfront Cafe in Benson, excellent photo courtesy of David Dillon.

Chinese Buffet

posted 19 May 2011 06:52 by Steven Moxey

Bob Mack organised an excellent short run from Wantage to Wallingford for the Chinese Buffet at the Bejing Diner. A very nice ride, excellent food and well supported. Here is the start with King Alfred in Wantage!

Cheddar Gorge Run

posted 12 Apr 2011 04:08 by Steven Moxey

The first ride out of the year from Erlestoke to Cheddar Gorge was a great success. The day started at the George and Dragon with bacon sandwiches, tea and coffee and was followed by an excellent run through the Somerset countryside and Mendip hills to Cheddar. About 23 people attended, many thanks to Alan Roberts for organising the run.

Just to wet the appetite for 2011 riding here is a picture from 2010 the Oxford Section at Varlet Farm, Poelkaplle, Belgium. The weather was great, if anything too hot perhaps.

British Motor Festival

posted 16 Mar 2011 07:55 by Steven Moxey   [ updated 16 Mar 2011 08:03 ]

The Southern Section arranged for the BMW Club to be represented at the British Motor Festival at Windsor Racecourse, March 11th-13th. This is a new show that combines the motor festival and leisure shows. The Southern Section were very good hosts and this show is certain to get bigger over the next few years. It is a good way of meeting new potential members and the camping equipment at the show was very good for those that like camping!

Sunday Lunch at Faringdon

posted 6 Mar 2011 12:00 by Steven Moxey   [ updated 6 Mar 2011 12:06 ]

The Sunday Lunch at Faringdon was a great success and the food was excellent as usual. Even the raffle seemed to go on for the right length of time! Many thanks to Bahnstormer and North Oxford Garage for their raffle prizes. The weather was reasonable for February and John Hillier and John Dillion both braved the elements on their bikes.

Skittles with the Western Section

posted 6 Mar 2011 10:12 by Steven Moxey

Sunday saw the annul Oxford/Western skittles match, Erlestoke. This has become quite a firm favourite in the social calendar. This year Oxford section were hosts at the George & Dragon with a very good supply of food!.
The Western section were narrow winners in a single ball playoff after the score was tied at 1-1. (Our excuse is that we lent them some of our best players to make up numbers). A very good time was had by all and next year the event will be hosted by the Western section at Luckington.. Report by Steve Moxey.
